JJ asked: Justin E. DeJaynes of Sims, IL was sentenced Wednesday afternoon to 10 years in prison for the July 3, 2007 drunk driving death of Airman Christopher Hardeik of Dieterich, Ill. State’s Attorney Kevin Kakac and the victim’s parents asked Judge Paul Lamar to sentence DeJaynes to the maximum – 14 years in prison for aggravated drunk driving causing a death. DeJaynes’ attorney, David Williams argued for 8 or less years, citing the fact that his client suffers from mental illness and has been treated for severe depression. DeJaynes truck crossed the centerline of U.S. Rt. 45 north of Geff, IL, striking Airman Hardeik’s truck head-on. He died at the scene. Deputy Ed Hinkle escorted DeJaynes out of the Wayne County Courthouse after Wednesday afternoon’s sentencing.DeJaynes also receieved his 2nd DUI last month after driving drunk from leaving a party. I guess he did not learn his lesson after the first DUI and killing
order drugs without prescription someone. Why did he only get 10 years? Thats awful! He deserved more!
Justin DeJaynes is only 22 years old. He killed Hardiek who was going home to visit his family after he completed his military training, he then was to be shipped out to Iraq. It is sad he had to lose his life. He had been on the road 9 hours already on his way home and made it less than an hour from his families home when he was killed.
